Callaway Nebraska Kite Fly

Labor Day Weekend, 2007

The pictures I took by sending my (old) camera up with a kite (KAP) are here.

A video of how my KAP camera rig was built and works is here.

A 12 minute, 96 megabyte WMV format video of some of the kites flying is available here.

This belongs to my friend, Robert. He won this custom made kite in a raffle at a previous event:

This is also Robert's kite:

This is Robert's "Gecko":

I thought this was a pretty one:

This Snoopy "Red Baron" was one of my favorite wind socks:

I thought this doggie was pretty neat too:

I liked the color of this blue. This kite was lifting the "bowl" below:

Here's the "bowl":

The next three are a sequence. I took this one to show scale. In this one, these guys are laying out a huge windsock. The guy on the far left is holding the head and the tail runs off the picture to the right. The guy holding up the middle of the kite is the owner and also the regional director of the AKA.

This really big kite is what is lifting the big windsock above:

Now, you have a sense of scale of this lifter kite and the big guy its lifting:

This one is pretty good sized too:

This spinning windsock was beautiful. The opening in the front is about 12' across and it is 90' long. I overheard someone ask the owner what just this sock was worth and the reply was $4,500.

These are all on one line. The white kite at the very top-right is the lifter that is keeping the socks up. Again, the spin sock in the middle is 90' long. That is one expensive string of kites!

There are huge kites, and there are tiny kites. Fancy kites, and simple kites. I've shown just a small sample of what one would see at such an event.

In the end, it is really all about this:

And finally, this is my son, Logan. To him, flying this little kite is just as cool as those huge kites worth thousands of dollars:

That is all.
