KAP - Kite Arial Photography
During day one at Callaway, sending my camera up with my kite didn't turn out so well. My lifting kite got tangled with another small kite that ended up in my line getting cut. Fortunately, I was in the process of pulling them down when the line broke. The camera fell about 10 feet. The camera is ok, but my rig that holds, turns, and activates the camera shutter took a beating. I was able to get it working again well enough to use during day two, but it still needs some attention and rebuilding to get it back to normal working condition.
I've had quite a few people interested in how I actually take the pictures from a kite. I've included a video here that shows how my rig was built and how it works.
This is my kite that I used to lift my camera. Normally, I use my big smiley face "Rok" but with the high winds, this year, this was a better choice.
